In the LXX and Coptic, the following addition is made to this verse: Μετα δε τας ημερας τας πολλας εκεινας ετελευτησεν ο βασιλευς Αιγυπτου, "After these many days, the king of Egypt died." This was probably an ancient side-note, which crept into the text, as it appeared to throw light on the next verse.ReciprocalExodus 2:18 - General; 18:1 - Jethro; Judges 1:16 - Moses'; 1 Samuel 10:16 - matter; 2 Kings 5:19 - Go in peace; Luke 8:48 - go; Acts 7:23 - to; 15:33 - they were
Verse 19MidianA country in Arabia Petrea, on the eastern coast of the Red Sea, near Mount Sinai. This place is still called by the Arabs the Land of Midian, or of Jethro. Abulfeda, speaking of Midian, says, "Madyan is a city, in ruins, on the shore of the Red Sea, on the opposite side to Tabuc, from which it is distant about six days' journey. At Midian may be seen the famous well at which Moses watered the flocks of Shoaib (Jethro). This city was the capital of the tribe of Midian in the days of the Israelites."for allExodus 2:15, 2:23; Matthew 2:20Reciprocal1 Kings 11:21 - Hadad; Acts 7:29 - General; Habakkuk 3:1 - not fearing Verse 20the rod of GodExodus 4:2, 4:17, 17:9; Numbers 20:8, 20:9ReciprocalExodus 2:21 - Zipporah; 7:9 - Take; 14:16 - lift; Numbers 18:20 - General; 2 Kings 4:24 - Then she; 1 Chronicles 23:15 - Gershom; Acts 7:29 - General Verse 21wondersExodus 3:20 I will harden7:3, 7:13, 9:12, 9:35, 10:1, 10:20, 14:8; Genesis 6:3; Deuteronomy 2:30-33, 2:36; Joshua 11:20; 1 Kings 22:22; Psalm 105:25; Isaiah 6:10, 63:17; John 12:40; Romans 1:28, 9:18; 11:8-10; 2 Corinthians 2:16; 2 Thessalonians 2:10-12; 1 Peter 2:8ReciprocalExodus 8:15 - he hardened; 8:32 - General; 9:34 - and hardened; 10:27 - General; 11:10 - the Lord; 14:4 - harden; 1 Kings 22:23 - the Lord; 2 Chronicles 18:22 - the lord hath Verse 22IsraelExodus 19:5, 19:6; Deuteronomy 14:1; Jeremiah 31:9; Hosea 11:1; Romans 9:4; 2 Corinthians 6:18; Habakkuk 3:1; James 1:18ReciprocalGenesis 6:2 - the sons; Exodus 9:1 - General; 13:2 - Sanctify; 15:2 - my God; 21:4 - shall be her; Deuteronomy 32:6 - thy father; 2 Kings 1:16 - Forasmuch; 1 Chronicles 2:42 - his firstborn; Isaiah 63:8 - Surely; 63:16 - thou art; 64:8 - thou art; Jeremiah 2:3 - all that; 2:14 - Israel; Malachi 1:6 - if then; Matthew 2:15 - Out; John 8:41 - we have Verse 23Exodus 11:5, 12:29; Psalm 78:51, 105:36, 135:8ReciprocalGenesis 6:2 - the sons; Exodus 7:14 - he refuseth; 9:1 - General; 9:2 - General; 14:17 - I will; Deuteronomy 14:1 - the children; 2 Kings 1:16 - Forasmuch; 1 Chronicles 2:42 - his firstborn; Isaiah 63:8 - Surely; Jeremiah 2:3 - all that; Malachi 1:6 - if then Verse 24the innGenesis 42:27
The account in this and the two following verses, although rather obscure, seems to imply, that on their way to the land of Egypt, an angel appeared to Moses, and sought to kill his son, on account of his father's non-observance of the Lord's positive command to Abraham, that every man child of the Jewish nation, or born in his house in servitude, should be circumcised on the eighth day; and the Zipporah, at the command of Moses, immediately fulfilled the injunction, and thus averted the wrath of God, denounced against the disobedient: "The uncircumcised man child, whose flesh of his foreskin is not circumcised, that soul shall be cut off from his people." 17:14 the LordExodus 3:18; Numbers 22:22, 22:23; 1 Chronicles 21:16; Hosea 13:8 soughtGenesis 17:14; Leviticus 10:3; 1 Kings 13:24ReciprocalLuke 2:7 - the inn; 10:34 - an inn
